The last couple of months have been busy for the MCFD. We have adopted new bylaws and are working on restructuring our department documents and procedures. Robert Jones was appointed the new Secretary / Treasurer.
MCFD has participated in a joint training with the fire departments of Rockwall County on propane tanks and safety. This training was put on by Cadenhead Gas and a TEEX instructor. Several Officers traveled to New Braunfels to participate in NIMS training hosted by the Comal County Sheriff's Office. These classes complete the federally mandated NIMS training for our Red Hats and White Hats. Also, MCFD sent four members to train at the Texas Municipal Fire School hosted by TEEX and Texas A&M University in College Station. Rachel Maxwell attended Firefighter II, Lt. Robert Jones attended Auto Extrication, and Chief J.T. Williams and Asst. Chief Chris Entrekin attended the TCFP Fire Investigator Skills class to obtain continuing education credits for their Fire Investigator Certifications. These trainings were partially funded on a grant from the Texas Forestry Service and accommodations were provided by the MCFD.
MCFD is currently preparing for or 35th Annual Chili Cook-off scheduled for October 2, 2010. Please have entries in a 4:45 PM, as judging will begin at 5 PM and serving promptly after judging is completed. We will have live music, a live auction, appearances by CareFlite and Rockwall EMS, and activities. Bring out the whole family for fun and entertainment and support Your fire department.

On May 18, 2010, MCFD trained on vehicle extrication. Guest instructor Jerry Miller, a Captain with the Rockwall Fire Department, presented the "Phases of Extrication". Capt Miller has participated in many extrication competitions and trained under Battalion Chief Ron Moore of McKinney Fire Department. Capt Miller showed a brief powerpoint presentation and led a two and a half hour hands on training. Jeanie's Auto Salvage of Terrell donated four vehicles for our disposal. Chub's Towing and Recovery of Rockwall donated a wrecker and driver to transport the vehicles to and from our training site at Station 2. Special thanks to Jerry, Jeanie's and Chub's for their time and materials. Be sure to check out the pictures under the photos link to the left.

A lot of changes have happened regarding the McLendon-Chisholm Fire Department over the last few weeks. On May 4th, Chief Skippy Waters retired after ten years of service. On August 29th, Sec./Treas. Steve Hatfield retired after many years of service. Each will be missed personally and with the contributions they have made over the years.
At the business meeting on May 4th, the members elected the Officers as following:
John T. (J.T.) Williams - Chief
Christopher Entrekin - Asst. Chief
Eric Gustafson - Sec./Treas. and remained as Station 1 Captain
John Tucker - remained as Station 2 Captain
Robert Jones - Supply Officer and remained as Lieutenant
Each of these individuals demonstrate the dedication, desire and training to move the Department in the proper forward direction. We are currently reviewing the following for changes and improvement:
Updating our SOPs and By-Laws, including recruiting
Updating our compliance with NIMS in cooperation with the City of McLendon-Chisholm
Improving our current training program to include more hands on training and newer, more efficient techiques and skills
Improving relations with our City Council and Admin, neighboring departments, and County Officials
Making sure our members have the opportunities to obtain and maintain current State and National certifications
Involving the community in more activities and gaining the interest of the citizens in our organization
Pursuing our goals and objectives have become a difficult but rewarding journey. While we are not a paid department, we are still Professional in our duties. We challenge any citizens living within our fire district that are interested in having a good time, learning a set of unique but interesting skills, and providing a sense of service to your fellow man. If this sounds like you, please fill out an application and drop it off to Debi at City Hall or by Station 1 during a Tuesday night meeting.
